Objectives of language knowledge

Master some new words by self-learning and sharing: explosive, inventive, imaginative, skillful, brotherhood, chemist, linguist, philosophy, privately, memorial

Objectives of language skills

Develop the students’ abilities of skimming and scanning, grasping the main idea of each paragraph and raising questions; make the students know some details of Nobel and the Nobel Prize; require the students to organize their languages and discuss, make conversations, listen to and express some ideas with others.

Objectives of learning strategies

By self-learning, discussing within groups, teamwork, presenting and giving comments, the students are to know, to express ideas and to learn from historical figures.

Objectives of cultural awareness

Make the experiences, achievements and contributions of historical figures known to the students. By comparing Chinese famous figures with foreign ones, the students are required to learn good qualities from them.

Objectives of emotional attitudes

Cultivate the students’ active and positive attitudes to learning English and sharing ideas bravely; help the students find out and learn good qualities of successful figures; make him know receiving education in school is necessary.

Important teaching points: Improve the students’ skills of learning new words by themselves, reading, listening and speaking. Help the students deal with detailed information in passages.

Difficult teaching points: Some students’ English level makes some steps difficult: it’s hard for them to speak out the ideas in their mind, to understand some details in passages, and to raise questions according to the reading passage.

Teaching strategies: setting situations, playing games, having a competition, giving comments, expressing ideas, discussion and presentation

Teaching aids: projector(slides), flashcards, some paper sheet for the students to write questions on, whiteboard
