The analysis of students.
The students are in Grade Seven. Since they started to learn English in primary schools, they mastered some words and phrases. Therefore, in this class, the listening material is not so difficult for the students. And they are familiar with the topic electricity. However, the most difficult point is that they are required to learn how to use the vocabulary and the sentence patterns to express their opinions.
Teaching process
Step I Warming up
1. Greetings.
2. Play a game. Ss guess the names of the electrical appliances. It is to review the words Ss have learnt.
Step II Pre-listening
To think about what happened in Benny’s flat. And it is to get students prepared for the listening task and arise Ss’ interest and activate Ss’ common knowledge.
Step III While-listening
Listen to the dialogue for the first time to circle ON or OFF below the pictures.
Listen to the dialogue for the second time to fill in the blanks to have a clear idea about the whole story.
Then try to answer the following questions:
(1)What is the main idea of the dialogue ?
(2)What may cause the problem?
Step IV After-listening & Speak up
Present some phrases and let Ss learn the phrases
Look at the four pictures and put forward a question:
what is he going to do? (He is going to ...)
Show the dialogue of the first picture and let Ss make dialogues like the first one. Then discuss with their partners and T invites some Ss to present.
Step V Discussion & Presentation
Set a situation that Mr. Li of Xiuquan Middle School wants to collect some advice on safety tips in the school. Divide Ss into four groups and ask them to discuss with their partners and be ready for a speech.
Each group chooses one student to present and the rest of the Ss are required to take notes. Meanwhile, according to the criteria, they have to choose the best one and tell the reasons.
Step Ⅵ Conclusion
Remind Ss of the sentence patterns and some safety tips in the school.
