In the section “Starting out” , the jar in the video is a metaphor for life. Rocks, pebbles, sand and tea in the jar represent different life experiences and each of them plays its separate role in life. Students are expected to have?them prioritized?and spent proper time dealing with them.?

In the part “Understanding ideas”, the reading material presented as a web page covers a brief introduction to the book Tuesdays With Morrie, as well as four readers’ reviews on the book, which analyzes how to bravely and calmly face death from different angles so as to help students establish a correct outlook on life, values and friendship through reading and thinking. Also, students are expected to improve the abilities to understand English text and appreciate English literature.

(Teaching objectives & Core Competencies and Values?for students)

1. Lead students to discuss how to make a plan for life and understand the wisdom of life by watching the video and looking at the pictures.

2. Guide students to get the main idea of the text and basically understand the theme of the book Tuesdays With Morrie.

3. Guide students to perceive the textual structure and linguistic features of the text, and then use the relevant language to express themselves.

4. Help students?to master how to write a book review and a brief introduction to a book.

(Teaching focuses)

1. Lead the students to actively think and talk about the meaning of life that objects in the jar represent.

2. Develop students’ reading comprehension and analyze the textual structure as well as linguistic features of the passage .

3. Guide students to think and share how to write a book remark and share the wisdom of life that they have learn about.
