虚拟语气是一种动词形式, 表示说话人认为他所说的话是和事实相反的主观设想或主观愿望、假设、怀疑、猜测、建议等含义, 虚拟语气所表示的含义不是客观存在的事实。

根据所假设的条件能够实现与否，可将条件句分为真实条件句和非真实条件句。

真实条件句所表示的假设是可能发生或实现的，句中的条件从句与结果主句皆用直陈语气，且这种句子主句是一般现在时时，从句用一般现在时表示将来时。

虚拟语气的基本用法

如：

You will be late for class if you don’t hurry.

如果你不赶紧，上课就要迟到了。

I shall come if I want to (come).

如果我想来，我就会来。

非真是条件句也就是我们平常所说的虚拟条件句，所表示的假设往往是一种与事实的相反，是不可能实现的。句中条件从句与主句都用虚拟语气，时态自然也与真实条件句中的时态有所不同。
