As the candle burns,it uses up oxygen in the air.

So the water rises and fills about one fifth of the jar.

教学方法

本课采用教师做实验让学生观察,通过提问、启发、讨论和归纳的教法,让学生接受课文知识,理解课文内容,培养学生的语言综合运用能力。

教学准备

A candle , a candle holder ,a big glass jar, a shallow dish ,some water ,a lighter

教学过程

Step 1 Warming up

Greet the whole class as usual.

Step 2 新课导入 (Lead in)

Show a picture and ask:

What are they doing? They are doing experiments.

Do you like doing science experiments ? Why ? Ok, today we will do an experiment - Lesson 26 Keep the candle burning !

Step 3 Teaching of the new lesson. (新课讲解)

Show some objects .(同时展示a candle,a candleholder, a big glass jar, a shallow dish with water, matches的图片。并且提出问题:What are they?(通过物体和图片引起学生对本课新词的回忆与巩固。)

The teacher does the experiment and ask Ss to make observation .At the same time the teacher describles the steps in English.Then ask “What will happen ?(The candle stops burning .The water inside the jar rises .)

给学生做展示实验并描述实验过程。

T: First, put the candle in the candleholder.

Second, put the candleholder in the dish.

Third, fill the dish half full of water.

Then, light the candle and let the candle burn for two or three minutes.

Next, carefully put the jar over the candle.

Finally, look at the water in the jar. What observation can you make?

Ask Ss to do the experiment in groups and pay attention to the steps.

Then ask “What is happening?”(The candle stops burning .The water inside the jar is rising .)

Step4 Explain the key points in the text and do some math exercises.
