Teaching resources:

A recorder, an audiotape.

Teaching steps:

Step 1: Greet the class.

Step 2: Review the phrases the students learned in the last lesson.

Step 3: Lead in.

Show the students a picture of Yuan Longping and ask the students guess who he is.

Teacher: The man in the picture is Yuan Longping, he is called the “Father of Hybrid Rice”. Today we’ll learn something about him. Let’s come to Lesson 9: China’s Most Famous “Farmer”.

Step 4: Play the audiotape and ask the students to listen and read along with it.

Step 5: Ask the students to read the lesson by themselves.

Step 6: Ask the students to do Let’s Do It! No. 1 and 2. Then check the answers as a class.

Step 7: Explain the key phrases in the lesson.
