②Don’t judge a man by his clothes.

Key points and difficult points:

How to improve the students’ reading ability.

Give suggestions about clothes for different body types of people.

How to choose suitable clothes for themselves.

Teaching strategies:

Help the students to find out the key sentence and key word to understand the main idea of the passage.

Help them to guess the meanings of the new words according to the passage.

Help them try to sort the information when they read long passages.

Ask them to retell the suggestions to understand them better.

Teaching procedures:

Step One Leading in

The teacher comes into the classroom with sunglasses and acts like a model, then ask the students,“Is Miss Yang special today? Do you like my glasses?”The students may say, “Yes!”

Then the teacher say, “Well, I am going to a fashion show, would you like to go with me? Do you have nice clothes for the fashion show? Don’t worry! I opened a new clothing shop, you can come and have a look.”

Step Two Revision and presentation

1.Suppose the teacher opened a new clothing shop, talk about the shop and clothes with the students, make a real situation to help the students revise the words light, soft, warm, bright, dark and learn the new words customer, business, cold-colored, style, simple, fancy, design, contrast, suitable, slim, broad, waist.

2.After talking about the clothes, show two pictures of two customers, one is fat, and the other is thin. Ask them to help the teacher give suggestions to them. Then say, “Thank you very much for your advice! My friend Tom also gives me some advice, let’s read the letter from Tom.”

Step Three Reading

Pre-reading

Read paragraph one after the tape, ask the students to guess the meanings of congratulation and succeed according to the passage, help them to use the two words.

Read the last paragraph, help them to find out Tom thinks that it’s important for me to help people choose suitable clothes.

While-reading

What’s paragraph two about? Help the students to find out the key sentence I have a few suggestions for success and key word suggestions. Then they know the passage is about suggestions.

How many suggestions are there? What are they?

Help the students to find out four types of people, fat, short, tall and thin, broad waist, they may know very clearly that there are four suggestions.

Ask the students to divide the passage into five parts, then know about and retell the suggestions one by one.

Post-reading

Draw a table on the blackboard and talk about the suggestions.

Step Four Show time & Sum up

1.Have a fashion show. Do you know how to choose clothes for yourselves? I bring some clothes here. Would you like to choose some clothes and have a fashion show?
