To obtain some listening skills like previewing it before listening

Step one lead-in (pre-listening)

Greet the students and then ask them if they feel happy and lucky.

T: You feel happy because you are students and you feel lucky because you can study in such a good school.

Then show them some pictures of our school (pictures of our teaching building, computer room, chemistry laboratory, physics laboratory, lecture hall and the play ground).

T: But in China, there are some children of your age are not that lucky, do you want to know about their studying and living conditions?

Then show some pictures together with the background music to help them learn more. Ask them to express their feelings and to think about some ways to help the poor children.

(设计意图:让学生通过两组图片的对比深刻的体会到自己的幸福和他人的不幸,并通过小组讨论的模式激发他们的公益心,而不止是限于同情这个层面。)

Ask students to watch a video that may give them some new ideas.

(设计意图:通过观看一个山区支教老师和学生之间的故事来让学生更深切地感受山区学生的生活和学习环境的简陋,并激发他们新的想法,也为听力的主题“working in a mountain area”做好铺垫。)

Step two listening practice (while-listening)

Part A1

T: Peter’s cousins Judy is telling him about a volunteer project, do you want to know more about it? Read through the six questions and then listen for the first time, play it again if necessary.

Then ask students to share their answers.

Part A2

T: Judy has already been in the mountain area for some time, she is calling Peter and telling him about her experience there. Let’s listen to their conversation and try to put in the missing words.

Part A3

T: Well, let’s try to retell the detailed information about their conversation in the following four aspects: school, students, Judy’s life and what she thinks about the volunteer project.

Step three discussing (post-listening)

T: Well, Judy thinks it’s meaningful and helpful to help the children in poor areas in China, and we all agree with her, right?

S: Yes.

T: But do you think it’s always easy to help the people in need?

S: No.

T: So what qualities do we need to help others?

Guide them to say some key words like: modest, warm-hearted, kind, hard-working, brave, etc.

教材
