Ⅵ.Teaching procedures:

Step1.Lead-in

1.Tell students we mainly talk about asking and showing the way in this lesson. By watching a video, students answer 3 questions: What’s the woman doing? Did the young man help her find the way ? What do you think of the young boy?

2.Guide students to discuss in groups: What should we know if we want to help others find the way? Guide in : Knowing directions and traffic signs are very important .

Step2.Presentation

1. Revise directions : let students draw a map and mark the directions on a piece of paper.

2. Show students some traffic signs, and advise students to say out its meaning in pairs , if they can’t, I will help them and write down on the blackboard:crossroads traffic lights zebra crossing and so on .Make up some sentences to warn students to obey the traffic rules: when traffic lights are green ,we can go ;when traffic lights are yellow ,we must wait;when traffic lights are red, we must stop .

3. Learn to use prepositions of movement, guess its meaning while looking at the signs because they are often seen in the map . One act , the partner can guess .

Step3.Practice

1. Encourage students to describe the following pictures, and explain some difficulties to students. Remind students to pay attention to the important patterns: Cross the bridge and turn left. Take the first turning on the left ……

2. Practise in pairs to make up a dialogue using the above patterns. Such as: If we are at No.5 Middle School, could you tell me how to get to Ge Feng Primary school? They can express freely.

Step4.Practice

Give students an example , encourage students to finish the dialogue according to the first given letter. Let students read together and act it out in pairs.

Have a competition .Divide them into 9 groups , each group has 4 students. Make up a similar dialogue using many ways to ask the way .

Step 5 Summary

1. Watch a video and try to summarize the ways to ask and show the way. Let students say it one by one. At last show them: Is there a … near here? Where is …? Can you tell me how I can get to …? Can you tell me how to get to …? Could you tell me the way to …, please? Which is the way to …? Do you know the way to …? and so on.

2. Ask students to make notes and remember the useful expressions, after class the top students can help the weaker students practise more.

Step6. Consolidation : A writing.

Form a better learning English surrounding for the students . Provide them with their favourite topic to write. If your birthday is coming , please write an invitation to your best friend.

Students can discuss in groups orally first and write them down and choose some groups to have a presentation in the front .

1. Finish off the exercises of wb.

2. Finish off the writing .
