Teaching analysis

Students are interested in the topic birdwatching, so I provide them with more opportunities to discuss with partners about certain topic. By listening, speaking, reading and writing, students’ listening abilities are developed. However, some students are too shy to speak aloud. Thus, their group members play an important role to give them help and confidence. Finally, all the students can enjoy this lesson.

Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Warming up

1. A video about birds

2. A small free talk about birdwatching.

[Purpose: Arouse students’ interest in birdwatching and try to lead the classroom teaching naturally.]

Step 2 Speak up (B)

①Listen and answer

The things they should take???The reasons???[Purpose: Train the students how to listen and how to develop listening strategies.]

② Read in pairs and help them to find out sentences about how to ask and how to give suggestions

[Purpose: Give students a specific task and improve their oral English ]

Step 3 Pair work

Teacher provide them with more Nature Reserves to talk.

Use the dialogue as a model; students need to make up a new conversation with their partners.

A: Where shall we go?

B: Let’s…

A: What should we take with us?

C: We’d better…

A: What else should we take? (Anything else?)

D: We should…

[Purpose: Create a real-life situation for our students to practice their listening and speaking skills. ]

Step4 Listen to Part A1 (Facts about Yancheng Nature Reserve)

Show some pictures to teach the new word “red-crowned cranes” and lead to the topic Yancheng Nature Reserve.
