Individual work, pair works

Teaching procedures

Step 1. Lead-in

Play a guessing game. Show some weather reports for different seasons in Beijing. Have students guess: which is spring, summer, autumn or winter?

Step 2. Presentation (welcome to the unit)

1. Ask students,“Which season do you like best? What’s the weather like in different seasons?” Have students talk about them freely.

2. Show some pictures of different weather. Ask students “What’s the weather like in spring/ summer/ autumn/winter? Present some words about weather.

3. Finish part A on page 81. Have students know that we can add the suffix –y to some nouns to form adjectives.

4. Present the useful expression “It’s the best time to …”

5. Have students listen to the conversation between Amy and Simon, and then answer the questions: 1) Which season does Simon like best? Why? 2) Which season does Amy like best? Why?

Step 3 Practice

1. Work in pairs. Ask students to talk about their favourite seasons.

2. Get some pairs to talk about their favourite seasons.

Step 4. Presentation (comic strip)

1. Have students watch the video about Eddie and Hobo and then answer the questions: 1) What does Eddie want to do? 2) What does Hobo think of Eddie?

2. Then ask students to read the conversation in pairs. Get several pairs to act it out.

Step 5 Consolidation

Do some exercises to consolidate what we have learnt.

1) Fill in the blanks.

2) Translate these sentences.

Step 6 Summary

Have students sum up what we have learned today.

Step 7 Homework

1. Remember the new words and useful expressions.

2. Read the two dialogues.

3. Do some exercises in the exercise book.
