Step 1: Lead-in

Start a conversation by talking about the weather. Present “sunny”

Step 2: Suffix -y

Ask: Can you describe the weather in the pictures? Present “snowy, rainy, foggy, cloudy, windy, sunny” put them into two categories, give two more words “shiny, noisy” Let students work out the rules by themselves.

Step 3: Suffixes –ful/-less

Use the opening ceremony(开幕式)of the First Hua Yang Middle School Sports Meeting. Present “wonderful”

Use “At the beginning of the sports meeting”, present “meeting” and “beginning”, Take “meaning”, “action”, “illness” as examples, work out the rules and fill in the blanks.

动词v.

形容词adj.SuffixNoun adjective+ verb+ + 2. Pay attention to the spellings of some words with the suffixes, e.g. shopping, decision, invitation, happiness.

Step 5: Suffixes -er / -or / -ist

During the sports meeting, the players worked hard. Present “player” and give more words like it.

Einstein was one of the greatest _______ (science) in history.

e.g. __________ ____________

Lots of __________ go to Peking University to feel the culture of the famous university.

e.g.____________ _____________

Step 6: Suffix –ly

Teachers and students all worked closely with each other. Present “closely”,close+ly=closely(形容词+ly=副词), then change some adjectives into adverbs.

During the sports meeting, some students were busy writing articles to cheer for players, some are crying excitedly at the edge of the playground. They are all friendly and lovely. Present “friendly” and “lovely” , work out the rule: 名词+ly=形容词.

Finish the article with proper adjectives and adverbs.

Step 7: Prefixes un-/im-/in-

After the sports meeting, Some students won prizes, others didn’t get any places. The results of the competition were unimportant. They did their best. Present “unimportant” , we add the prefixes un- , in- , and im- to some adjectives to give them opposite meanings.

Finish the four dialogues.

Step 8: Compound words(复合词)

After the sports meeting, not everyone got a prize, but we were so happy. Present “everyone”, We can put two words together to create new words, they are called compound words(合成词),e.g. railway, earthquake, pancake, hard-working.

Say out compound words according to the pictures. Use a Vocabulary Tree to remember them well and quickly.

Play a game, Put two words together to get a new compound word, the faster, the better.
