Teaching procedures:

Step Ⅰ: Lead in

Play a video about different tourist atrractions.

【Intension: The video will improve the students' enthusiasm for learning and lead in the topic of this lesson.】

Step Ⅱ:Pre-reading?

1.?Brainstorming?

【Intension: Ask students what they think of the places of interest by brainstorming.】

2.?Around?the?World?in?Eight?Hours?

【Intension: Help students tell the class their travelling experiences by having a free talk with them. Tell them this passage will take them to travel around the world in eight hours in order to stimulate their desire for knowledge.】?

Step Ⅲ: While-reading

1. Have students look through the passage and find out how many places of interest are mentioned in New York and what they are.

【Intension: Help students get information from the passage by skimming. 】

2. Introduce the four places to the whole class.

【Intension: Help students understand the four places better with the help of the pictures.】

3. Ask students to read the passage carefully and complete Part B2 on Page 38.

【Intension:Encourage students to find out more specific information by careful reading.】

4. Play the recording of the passage and have students listen. Then ask students to divide the passage into three parts and try to find out the main idea of each part.

【Intension:Help students understand the structure of the passage.】

5. Play the recording again, and then ask students to read the passage and answer some questions.

【Intension:Check if students have understand the whole passage and help them if necessary.】

Step Ⅳ: Post-reading

1. Make a flow chart.

2. Retell the passage according to the flow chart.
