【教学难点】

1、学会比较火星与地球上的生活,并用英语谈论其优缺点。

2、训练学生的听力技巧和做听力笔记能力,教师先讲解方法,在让学生具体练习。

【教学过程设计】

Step One: Lead-in

T: Is it possible for us to live on Mars? S: Yes.

T: Tell me why people are thinking about moving to Mars? S: Because the earth is more and more crowded and polluted.

T: So it’s necessary for us to study Mars. Would you please introduce what the life on Mars would be like? ( You can introduce it in different ways.)

(The students say something about it according to what they have learned about Mars.)

T: From your introduction, we know that living on Mars has its good points and bad points. Then how many people would like to move to Mars? Put up your hands.

( The students put up their hands.)

T: OK. About 40% of you would like to move to Mars. In fact, not only you but also some other students have different opinions about living on Mars. There is a TV programme on this topic. Open your books and turn to page59. Look at Part A1 and let’s listen to the preview of the programme. Pay attention to “carry out”. Carry out a survey means make a survey. And learn the word “percentage”. Read the words and get ready for listening.

(Let the students do some predictions and guess what the words may be.)

S: Listen to the tape and complete the lines.

(Check the answers)

Step Two: Listening

T: There is an interview with three strudents in the programme. They also express their ideas about living on Mars. Before listening, I think you can finish or guess some of the lines according to what we have learned about Mars. (If you can, read out the sentences.)

Listen and check.

T: Anyway, these are their ideas. Do you have any disagreements with their ideas? (The students express their own ideas.)

Let’s finish the dialogue on Page60 with the information in PartA1and A2. You can get your partner’s help if necessary. (Check the answer quickly and read it loudly.)

Language points:

SHAPE ﹨* MERGEFORMAT

Step Three: Speaking up

Daniel and Sandy are also talking about their ideas about living on Mars. Listen and answer: Would Sandy like to live on Mars? Why? ( Something worries her.

Open your books and read their dialogue carefully and try to find out Sandy’s worries and Daniel’s opinions. Try to finish the table.

From the table, what do you think of Daniel? ( He is brave enough to face the problems and will try his best to solve the problems. We should learn from him.

Step Four: Discussing and reporting

It’s time for you to make your choice. Where do you prefer to live, Mars or Earth? Discuss in your groups and finish the first part of the report. (The teacher write the disadvantages of both living on Mars and living on Earth on the blackboard.)

Here are the main problems on Mars and on Earth. What should we do with them? The video may give you some ideas. (Show them a brief video about “The Martian”)

3. Now, let’s try to think of our ways to solve them. This time, the students who prefer to live on Earth, please choose the problems on Earth. And the students who prefer to live on Mars, please choose the problems on Mars. (Try to finish the following task and then report it to us.)
