Develop students’ reading ability.

Enable students to talk about festivals and celebrations fluently.

Teaching procedures:

Step1. Lead-in1.Play the song “Happy new year” , and ask the students “When can we hear this song ? ” and “Do you like it? ” And then let the students sing the song together.

2.Ask the students “Forty days ago, we spent the most famous and important festival in China , what is it?” And then give the students one minute to think what words will come into their mind when talking about Spring festival. And then show the answers on the black board.

3.Give students 2minutes to Brain-storming as many festivals as possible, and then ask them to look at the screen .

Step2. Reading

1. Skimming (all the students)

Give students one minute to read para.1 as quickly as possible and then fill the blanks on the screen.

2.Careful reading ( group work)

Divide the students into four groups and each group pays attention to one paragraph. Give the students 3 minutes to read the passage carefully, and then check what they have read by filling the forms in the screen. When they read the passage, they should keep four words in their mind:

Why do people celebrate the festivals?

Where do the festivals take place?

When does it take place ?

How to celebrate the festivals?
