Overall Design

This is the writing period of Module 6 The Internet and Telecommunications. The teaching objective of this period is to enable the students to write an argumentative writing. In order to achieve this objective, task-based language teaching is adopted. There are mainly four steps in this class, warming-up, pre-writing, writing and post-writing.

The first step is warming-up, in which the students are asked a question about mobile phone . The students answer questions. The purpose is to catch the students’ interest. The second step is to read a model essay to learn the structure of an argumentative writing and some basic writing skills so that the students can be prepared for writing. The third step is to write an argumentative writing in groups according to knowledge learned in the previous step. The last step is to assess the writing of one or two of the group, which can help the students learn from each other and realize their own problems in writing. All in all, this period mainly focuses on learning and practicing writing an argumentative writing.

The whole class is student-centered. It’s the students who play the leading roles in the class. When undertaking the tasks one by one, the students learn to write an argumentative writing step by step. The teacher only organizes the class, guides the students to undertake the tasks and helps them out when the students encounter problems. Meanwhile, the teacher must help the students realize that the Internet and telecommunications can bring us benefits as well as ruin our lives. Thus the students can make good use of them and avoid spending too much time on them.
