Step 1?Greetings

Step 2?Lead-in and the facts of smoking

Lead in the class by talking about the strict anti-smoking regulation to be carried out on June 1 2015 in Beijing. Students also can discuss which hand-gesture they prefer to choose as the sign of anti-smoking.

Deal with “facts about smoking” in the Introduction. Students can discuss to get the correct choices of each statement.

Step 3 Discuss the reasons for smoking

Since smoking can do great harm to both human beings and society, why do people stick to smoking?

The possible reasons may be

1. to be cool

2. to be mature

3. to be similar to his friends

4. to rebel

5. to release pressure

…

Step 4 Discuss the damages smoking may cause.

Q: What damages can smokers cause to themselves, to the people around and to the society?

Give several minutes to the students to discuss the question through different aspects, they can choose one of them or all. Then invite some of the students to present their answers. After the presentation, make some conclusions about the damages caused by smokers and, at the same time, show them some related pictures.

1. Smoking does great harm to our health, causing such diseases as lung cancer, bronchitis and heart disease.

2. Smoking is harmful for the health of the nonsmokers especially children

3. Smoking causes a great loss of money.
