Step 1 Warming up
1 Introduce some natural disarsters：There are many kinds of natural disasters in the world,they are very violent and they have killed millions of poeple and destroyed countless homes. so they are very harmful. Can you name some disasters?
2 Ask the students to talk about some disarsters.
3 Ask the students to talk about the pictures in the Introduction, page 21.
Step 2 Lead-in (part 1, page 21)
Get students to match the words in the box with the definitions below. Then ask individuals to show their answers.
A flood is a lot of water in an area which is usually dry.
A hurricane is a very strong wind and storm.
Lightning is the flash of light which occurs during a thunderstorm.
A thunderstorm is a lot of rain falling quickly, with loud noises and flashes of light.
A tornado is a column of air that turns very quickly.
