According to the New English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School, “According to the cognitive characteristics and learning development needs of senior high school students, senior high school English curriculum should further develop students' basic language ability while at the same time; Step by step, cultivate students' ability to think and express in English, and create necessary conditions for their further study and development.”

Textbook Analysis: (Analysis of Teaching Content of this Module)

The topic of this module is old and new. The purpose of this module is to understand the knowledge about the construction of the Three Gorges Dam and the dreams of Mao Zedong and Sun Yat-sen, and to cultivate students' language skills.

Writing is a story about the author who lives in Wuhan who went to Zigui to see the old house where her grandparents lived again, but because the old house of her grandparents who built the Three Gorges Dam was submerged, she saw many people come to visit the Three Gorges Dam; this is a narrative. Through the adapted passage, the author introduces several elements of the new and old contrastive compositions in a certain place, and carries out writing exercises.

Analysis of learning situation:Senior one students have some understanding and attempt on this kind of written expression, but it still needs to be strengthened. Based on the above analysis, this lesson aims to enable students to grasp the basic writing methods of such compositions and practice them on the basis of reading.
