Teaching Objectives

Knowledge objectives: 1. Students should be able to master some new words and phrases related to the topic “carnival”, such as, flour, garlic, pea, pork, sausage, broccoli, cauliflower, fennel, ingredient, parade, go wild about, high spot, be in one’s blood, wash down a meal, walk off a meal, funnily enough, etc. 2. Students should be able to know something about carnivals in different countries.

Ability objectives: 1. Students should be able to grasp some listening skills in order to better perform in the examination and more importantly, better communicate with a foreigner. 2. Students should be able to have a better understanding of carnivals around the world.

Emotion objectives: Students should cultivate cross-cultural awareness and realize our duty to promote our own traditional festivals.

Important Points

Listen to four periods of interviews in which the four interviewees will talk about the carnival in their countries.

Teaching Difficult Points

Listen for detailed information and students will be able to grasp some listening skills in a listening test. For example, they should be able to distinguish the phenomena of liaison and stress and try to use them in their own conversation with others.
