2). Learn to appreciate poems, feel the beauty hidden in the poems and reason it.

Activity 1. lead in

Make sure students know the tasks of this period clearly.

Activity 2. Experience the differences between English and Chinese poems:

1). Difference 1 Form of expression:

Chinese poems:hidden between the lines

English poems:come straight to the point

1. Use a famous Chinese poem to introduce the first difference between English and Chinese poems.

2. Students read the Chinese poem 《雨巷》 according to the English translations, feeling the main point the author wants to express and experiencing the beauty of Chinese poem.

3. Students read an English poem I love you for the first time and guess the title of the poem according to the repeated words "I love you".

2). Difference 2 The line

The line for English poems, not every line expresses a full meaning, which causes both end-stopped?line(结句行)and run-on?line to exist.(跨行句)。While in Chinese poems, every line does .

Tell students the correct way to read the English poem I love you for it has run-on line and students read it for the second time.

3). Difference 3 rhythm :

诗歌是具有音乐性的语言。中国古诗有节奏。平声与仄声结合起来反复出现,就是中国诗歌的节奏。

英文诗歌也有节奏。其节奏是通过重读音节与轻读音节表现出来的,一个重读音节与一个或两个轻读音节按一定的模式搭配起来,有规律地反复出现就是英文诗歌的节奏,即音步(foot) 。 前者为轻,后者为重,便是抑扬格(iambic),在英文诗歌中用得最多。

4). Difference4压韵(rhyme)??

英文诗一般都押韵,常见为?尾韵与行内韵(end?rhyme?and?internal?rhyme)?。

押在诗行最后一个重读音节上,叫尾韵。这是英文诗歌最常见的押韵部位。诗行中间停顿处的重读音节与该行最后一个重读音节押韵者,叫行内韵。

1.Take a poem for example:

Spring,?the?sweet?spring,?/ is?the?year’s?pleasant?king;?/Then?blooms?each?thing,?

then?maids?dance?in?a?ring,

2. Go back to the book page 39, students sing the song Auld Lang Syne together to feel the rhyme of the English poem.

3.Conclude the title according to the repeated words.

Activity 3 Learn to appreciate poems and know what the poets want to say.
