Ability aim:

Through different kinds of teaching activities, students can use “If Unreal Conditionals” to express themselves appropriately.

Emotional aim:

After learning this class, students will become interested in learning grammar.

II Teaching key point and difficult point:

Key point: learn usage of the grammar item “If Unreal Conditionals”.

Difficult point: use these grammar item correctly and fluently in daily communication.

III Teaching procedures:

Step 1 lead-in:

Greeting and show an old photo of the teacher, making a sentence of “unreal conditional” to lead the students to the study of “If Unreal Conditionals” and ask the students to pay attention to the verb tense.

Step 2 presentation

Task 1. Guide the students to explore the rules of “If Unreal Conditionals” of different situations and make a summary.

Task 2. Guide the students to explore more rules of relevant conditionals—mix time conditionals, inverted conditionals as well as conditionals with prep, adv and conj.

Step 3 Practice

Task 1. Correction.

Task 2. Join the two sentences together.

Step 4 production

Group work: Divide students into groups and Make sentences with two phrases which are logically related to each other, using unreal conditionals.

Step 5 summary and homework

Finish the multiple-choice exercises related to “If Unreal Conditionals” in the NMET.
