Step 1 lead in

Students answer the following questions.

Can you give me any advice? Why?

When you give someone advice, you can use sentences like “you should…” or “you can …”

Now can you think out other sentences to give advice?_________________________________

Step 2 Students read the letter and learn how to write a letter of advice.

Ⅰ Students read the letter on P35, and answer the questions.(When answering the questions, students make a competition.The stuents who gives the right answer can get one score for his/her group.)

What’s the main problem in the first paragraph?

How does his son treat his grandparents?

How does the son act?

What’s the main problem in the second paragraph?

How does he waste his time?

What does the father want the son to spend time on?

Ⅱ Students read the letters of advice on P36, and choose which letter is better and acceptable, and speak out the reason.

1. These words are from the two letters. Please find them out, and they can help you choose the better letter and find out the reason.

2. Can you underline the advice in the better letter?

Ⅲ Write a letter of advice.

1. Students read the letter on P37, and find out the problem.

What’s the problem between the son and the father?

Can you show some examples from the letter? (What does the father do?)

2. Discussion

Students discuss in their groups, and give Liu Xiaowei some advice on how to solve the problem and some comfort(安慰,宽慰).

Each group should think out as much advice and comfort as you can.
