Step1 Lead-in

1. Play a MTV of the theme song of 2016 Rio Olympics and show some relevant pictures and then ask students what is the most impressive moment to them.

2. Get students to do a quiz of some basic information about the past and future Olympic Games.

Step2 Reading material A: textbook, reading

Fast reading

1. Ask students to read the text quickly and figure out the topic of the speech.

2. Make an outline and help students understand the structure of the speech and get the main idea of each part.

Detailed reading

1. Get the students to read each part carefully to find the detailed information.

2. Ask students to compare the ancient and modern Olympics by listening for the difference between them.

3. Invite some students to introduce several well-known athletes by filling some basic information in the blanks.

Step3 Making a speech

1. Discussion: encourage students to engage in sharing their favorite sportsmen or sports with their partners.
