教学背景分析

教材分析:

The teaching material was adopted from Advance with English Module 4Unit 2 Sports events reading part, whose title is The Olympic Games. The reading material is a speech given by a member of the International Olympic Committee. It introduces the development of the Olympic Games from the ancient Olympics to the contemporary Olympics, then it mainly mentions some Olympics athletes such as Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and Chinese athletes along with their achievements in the Olympic Games. In addition, it tells some about the significance of the Olympic Games, which will be required for students to be aware of.

The framework of this passage is clear to understand and some basic information of the Olympics will be instructed. There are also some new words and expressions such as “contemporary” “champion” and so on.

学情分析:

Students of this class have mastered a certain number of words and expressions, which make them prepared to read the material of this lesson. In addition, they have learned the reading strategies like skimming and scanning, which will help them understand the general idea of the passage and deal with some details. They have also learned some basic skills in making a speech such as the format and some expressions. However, part of them still have difficulty in reading between lines.

The topic of this reading material is about the Olympics, which will appeal to some of students for they love sports.

教学目标

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

obtain some information of the development of the Olympic Games from the ancient Olympics to the contemporary Olympics while learning some related words and expressions.

realize the significance of the Olympic Games in the world and its spirit such as working together and pushing our own boundaries.
