三、学习过程

Step One: Lead-in

Let the students the students watch a short video about Mu Ba running on the field and then ask the students to describe Mu Ba. The description can be like this:Mu Ba can run 60 meters with the ball.(通过最近俄罗斯世界杯很火的法国名将姆巴佩的一段视频,引出本堂课的主题:情态动词,并很自然地过渡到情态动词can表能力的用法。)

Step Two: Modal verbs

We can use modal verbs to express ability. (can, could, be able to)

(show two pictures) Cristiano Ronaldo can / is able to control the ball well.

Xu Haogang can sing various songs.

I can drive, but seven years ago, I couldn't.

Encourage the students to say more sentences using the following structures:

I can ... but ... , I couldn't.

He / She can / is able to ...

Zhou Tianlong / Huang Zhou can / is able to ...

2. We can use modal verbs to express obligation.(should, ought to, must, have to)

In order to keep his charming figure, Cristiano Ronaldo must/ has to do exercise

for at least 4 hours every day.

From this match, we know everything is possible, so we should/ ought to/ must/
