Step 1 Greetings

Greet the students as usual.

Step 2 Lead-in

Show some pictures to help the Ss answer the following questions:

1. Can you name some sporting events that are performed in the Olympics?

2. Which of them do you like best? Why?

3. What can we do to enter a new sport into the Olympics?

Step 3 Reading

ⅠAsk the Ss to listen to an article about the requirements of entering a new sport into the Olympics and answer the following questions:

1. Does it take a long time to enter a sport into the Olympics?

2. How many requirements must be met before a sport can be considered by the IOC?

3. How does the IOC balance the sports?

4. Has wushu been included in the Olympics?

5. Rugby and golf have been removed, so they will never return to the Olympics. Is that right?
