Step1 Warm up and Lead in

Greet the students as usual

Make a brief summary of the structure of a passage

Show students a passage and instruct them to speak out the functions of the five underlined sentences.

Step 2 Presentation

Analyse the three possible positions where the blanks are---at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of a paragragh.

1 If the blank is at the beginning

Get students to know it is usually the topic sentence.

Give students two examples and check the answers

If the blank is in the middle.

Instruct students to pay attention to the content before and after the blank

Give some examples.

Help students get answers according to some key words or sentences and logical connections.

If the blank is at the end.

Make students know the last sentence is often a summary of a paragraph.
