1. obtain a good understanding of the general idea of this text and the meanings of some key words related to traffic.

2. identify what kind of information is needed in the notebook and use abbreviations while completing the notes.

3. learn some ways to help with the traffic problems and come up with more ones after discussion.

4. foster a positive attitude toward the traffic problems and realize the necessity of citizens’ and government’s taking action.

Teaching Focus and Difficulty:

To learn some reading strategies: how to get the general idea quickly; how to decide what information is needed while taking notes; how to guess the new word’s meaning; use abbreviations.

Teaching Steps
