At the end of the class, Ss will be able to

Grasp some new words: bacon, dessert, toast, steak, tasty, waiter, waitress, manners and so on.

Master the suffix “er”, “ess” and “y” “s”.

Think of some different ways of learning new words.

Emotion and culture objects:

To stimulate students’ interest in western culture and cultivate their willing in learning English.

To help them get some information about Britain.

Teaching important and difficult points:

To arouse students’ interest in learning English.

To get some information about Britain.

Teaching process and methods

Use a short video which talks about some famous sights in London to lead in the topic-------- Visiting Britain.

Introduce something about Britain from the aspects of food, weather and custom.

First, use some pictures to introduce some British food to get them to learn some new words.

Then, make them to learn some methods of memorizing new words, such as the association methods.

After learning the ways, make them exercise more to understand the words better.

Teaching procedures

Step 1Warm up and lead in;

1. Ask one student to give us a speech related to Britain to lead to the topic-------Visiting Britain.

2. Begin the class by asking them the question “Do you want to go to Britain?” “what do you know about Britain?”

Students may have different opinions about Britain.

Step2 New words learning (through different methods).

1. Students look at some pictures and learn the words related to different kinds of foods, and then review the words by their English definitions.

2. Students share some customs about Britain and learn some words according to the suffix to brainstorm some other new words.

The suffix “er” and “ess” (waiter/waitress, actor/actress, host/hostess, god/goddess)
