依据《英语学科核心素养》及《英语课程标准》中的相关目标要求,结合本课的具体教学目标和学生实际,我的整体教学思路如下:

首先,作为一节专为感恩节当天课堂教学设计的主题活动课,我选取的教学材料是自选的课外阅读材料,所选阅读材料都是紧紧围绕感恩节话题的,共包含四种文章体裁,文章难度从易到难逐渐递进。(本堂课所有教学材料见教学设计附页)

其次,因为感恩节是一个有特殊意义的节日,我希望能创设一个能让学生全身心投入放松,能够使真实情感得以释放的温馨的课堂氛围,所以我选取了三段感恩话题的音乐作为阅读和写作时的背景音乐,在学生阅读和写作时以很小的音量播放,目的是烘托气氛,引起情感共鸣。

整堂活动课内容和顺序如下:活动一是猜关于turkey的谜语,引入今天的感恩节话题。活动二是介绍感恩节的来历,了解文化背景知识。活动三是读一首描述最早期感恩节的诗,学习感恩节相关话题词汇,了解这首诗的节奏和韵律,并推断出感恩节的精神内涵,吸收其文化精华。活动四是读一首描述妈妈如何抚养照看孩子从小长大的叙事诗,让学生从生活的点滴琐碎中感受自己可能因习以为常而忘记感谢的母爱,然后请学生谈一谈自己读后的感受。活动五是请同学谈谈对老师或同学的感激。活动六是读一篇关于为陌生人提供帮助的小故事,让学生体会如何善意地提供帮助,并让对方保持得体的尊严。活动七是读一篇关于如何用八种方式保持感恩心态的说明文,让学生形成健康积极的充满感恩之心的生活态度。活动八是写一封感谢信或一张感谢卡,鼓励学生把感激之情真诚地表达出来,同时学会运用表达感激的几个句式。

整堂课活动的安排是遵循先输入,再输出,先易后难的顺序,读、说、写有机结合。活动设计以学生的切身生活体验为出发点,这样更有助于激发他们用英语表达的热情,增强他们对语言学习的信心。2.教学背景分析教学内容分析:

Analysis of the teaching material(attached to the last page of the teaching design):

This is a special class on the theme of “Thanksgiving Day”. All the teaching material is selected by the teacher herself, which includes(1) a riddle about “turkey”; (2) a short introduction of the origin of Thanksgiving Day;(3) a poem about how people celebrated the early Thanksgiving Day;(4)a narrative poem about how Mom attends and loves us in daily life, and how we “thank” her in our ways;(5)a story about showing gratitude to strangers who offer help in a considerate way;(6)a poem about the eight ways to stay thankful every day. All these teaching material is related to the topic “Thanksgiving Day”, with the genre varying from riddles to expositions and difficulty varying from low level to advanced level. The reading material introduces the background knowledge of Thanksgiving Day, the customs, the purpose and the significance. And the story and the exposition provide us with a way to know how people love others and how to stay thankful. Besides, the teaching material includes three loving songs full of emotions: You Raise Me Up; A Loving Family; A Grateful Heart. The three songs work as background music, but meanwhile, they serve as teaching material in a sense. Because students are familiar with them, and they assist in teaching students to feel the strong affection from parents, teachers, classmates, and even strangers. Besides, the songs contribute to creating a nice and warm atmosphere in the process of teaching, which promotes learning in a sense. What’s more, there are other passages for reading as homework.

Analysis of the students:

This class is specially designed for Grade One students, who just began their senior high school life three months ago. Some of them haven’t adapted to the new life in senior high school, feeling a little lonely. Some of them are even complaining about everything around in the new school that is not favourable to them. They need to be taught a positive attitude towards life. Besides, they must have heard of Thanksgiving Day before, but have never thought of the origin or the significance of it, not to mention celebrating it with their English teacher and classmates. This special class is intended to get students involved in the activities and leave them a specially sweet memory.3.教学目标分析Knowledge and skills:

1.Students will be able to grasp the words and expressions concerning Thanksgiving Day. (for all the students)

2.Students will be able to explain the origin and the customs of Thanksgiving Day.

(for students of intermediate level and above)

Students will be able to generalize the main idea of a reading passage, feel the affection between lines and express their feelings after reading. (for students of intermediate level and above)

Emotions, Attitude and Values:

1.Students will have a desire to show their gratitude to their parents, teachers, classmates and other people who have helped them. (for all the students)

2.Students will learn how to help strangers in a considerate way. (for all the students)
