Teaching Procedures:

Step I. Revision

Review some key points in the text by talking about the theme in this unit, using the key words and phrases.

pregnant give birth to abnormal

quit smoking get rid of

ban sb. from doing sth.

Ask the students to say something about the habit of smoking, using the point above if possible. It would be better if they can make it a brief paragraph.

( 2 or 3 students present their opinions)

Step II. Lead-in

Ask the students to fill in some blanks according to what they know.

____ was a sunny day. Peter decided to go for a walk to the park, though _____ was two miles away. ___ was so comfortable to walk on the street. Suddenly ___began to rain. He found __ hard to walk there. Then he took a bus home. Unfortunately ___ went wrong. When he got home, he was wet through. Thus ___ was a day that he would never forget.

Give them some time to think about the use of “it”. And try to draw a conclusion.
