2. Grasp the following strctures:

--What are you doing?—I’m watching TV.

--What’s he/ she doing?—He/She is reading.

--What are they doing?—They’re listening to a CD.

(Ability) Enable students to talk about what people are doing familiarly.

(Emotion) Stimulate students’ spirit of cooperative learning.

Teaching method: Task-based teaching method & Situational teaching method

Teaching Steps:

Step 1 Review & Warming-up

Lead students to review what they learnt in Unit 5 for about 2 minutes. Then enjoy and learn to sing an easy English song “Are you sleeping?” to lead-in the topic of Unit 6.

Step 2 Present new words of this period on the screen. Lead students to learn together and give some explanations for some words.

Step 3 Practice the new words.

Match the phrases with the pictures in 1a.

Step 4 Present the new structures of this period

Lead students to read the sentences together and read in the way “ Let’s chant.”

Step 5 Practice the new structures

Play a guessing game. Present the rules for the game on the screen. Give students some time to prepare. Then ask some of them to come to the front to act out. The others guess what he/she is doing or what they’re doing.

Make a competition “Who is faster” to see which group is the winner.

The teacher raises the question, then the students who raise hands fastest will get the chance to answer the question.

Step 6 Listening

Listen to a conversation betweeen Bob and Jenny. After that, try to finish 1b.

Read the listerning material of 1b.

Step 7 Practice like 1c

Work in pairs to talk about what he/she is doing and what they’re doing. Then ask some pairs to ask and answer in the front.

Talk about what their family are doing. Present a family photo on the screen. If it is their own family photo, try to talk about what the family are doing in the way of an oral English composition.

Step 8 Summary

Sum up what they learnt in this class together.
