Aims and demands

I: Lead in.

Look at the pictures and try to answer the questions:

What do these robots look like?

What can robots do?

Prepare for the reading and try to arouse the interest of the students.

II: Prediction

Predict the information according to the picture and title.

Train the students to get the skills of predicting the content of the passage from pictures and articles.

III: Reading

1. Fast-reading: Read and match each paragraph [1-4] with its main idea.

2. Careful-reading:

①Read Para. 1 and 2 and try to answer the two questions. Then check the answers and the topic sentences of each paragraph.

②Make predictions about what robots can do and can’t do, then work in groups and find the answers from Para. 3.

Then check the answers and find the evidence of each question.

③Read Para. 4 and answer 2 questions.

Then check the answers.

3.After Reading:

While listening to the tape of the passage, the students need to find out the opinions of the scientists and see which side the writer supports.

Get the main idea of the passage to build the structure of the whole passage. Practice the skills of skimming.

By reading the passage carefully. The students will get the detail information about the articles. By predicting the passage first, the students will be more interested in the passage.

Help the students to conclude the opinions from the scientists and find the writer’s opinion about the passage.

IV: Practice

Fill in the mind map and retell the passage according to it.

Then ask some students to retell for the class.

Let the students make a conclusion about the passage and practice the speaking skills.

V: Homework

What kinds of animals might robots look like in the future? What do you think these robots will be able to do? Write your ideas and discuss them with your partner.
