ppt presentation, resolution cards.

Teaching procedure:

Step 1. Presentation

Play a homemade video.After that,ask students: What are they doing? Lead into the topic today---make a resolution. Then another question: What are they going to do? in this way, I present the stucture“be going to” and some phrasal verbs we are going to learn in this lesson.

Step 2. Writing and Speaking

Ask students to work alone and think of their New Year’s resolutions.

1.Present a calendar,ask students: What’s the date today?

2.Say New Year is coming, Why not make some resolutions too?

3.Give out a specially-made cards to each student, ask them to write their New Year’s resolutions on the card. This process may take them several minutes, Later ,get some students to show their resolutions in front of class.

4. Collect all the resolution cards and say: I”ll keep these resolution cards for you and I will see if all of you can keep it. I hope you’ll do as you wrote on the card in the coming New Year.

Sep 3. Reading and Practice

Say: There is a magazine article about people’s resolutions in 3a. Let’s read it and make a list of people’s resolutions it mentions. (Task 1)

Ask them to read it again, and then ask them to look at the screen: Can you guess the missing words or pharases according to the picture? (Task 2)

Change to another slide and ask: Can you repeat the article according to the diagram?

Step 4. Writing

Revise the listening in 2a,ask students to write down Kim’s, Lucy’s and Manuel’s New Year’s resolutions according to the information they’ve gotten.

Step 5. Working in groups

Say: I see that almost all of your resolutions are personal, why don’t you do something else? I took some pictures of our city this year, look at them.

After showing them, ask: what do you think of our city? Are you going to do anything for our city to make it cleaner and greener? Let’s work in groups and make 6 or more resolutions to make city better, OK? Don’t forget to sign your names on it.

Ask some students to read the resolutions of their groups.

Step 6. Homework

Ask students to finish the exercises in Self-check and learning-guide paper.
