6. Teaching methods: cooperation & competition

7. Teaching procedures :

Step 1:warm up;

The teacher guides students to play a game,five students will be asked to stand in the front of the classroom, each of them will blow one balloon. After they finish blowing the balloon. Students will have to describe these balloons in concern of their sizes. comparative and superlative must be used. After the lead-in game, those balloons will be put up on the wall, as they will be used in other activities in this class.(5mins)

Step 2: presentation;

The teacher asks students to observe the sentences on the paper which was given to them before class. Students work in group of six, try to summarize the usage of comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives and adverbs.(5mins)

After the hot discussion, students have to come to the platform and have a presentation,sharing what they have found from those sentences. If everything goes well , they will summarize most of the target knowledge points.(10mins)

The teacher evaluates students' performance and gives students a systematic usage of target language points.(3mins)

Step 3:Consolidation

1.students continue to work in group of six, practice the target points by making up some sentences with comparative and superlative. In this activity, students will have to adapt those balloons to their group work. That is, go on describing the balloons in concern of their characteristics.(6mins)

2. Time permitting,students will play another game. A guessing game,that is,students work with their partners, write down several sentences to describe a person or an object, while writing sentences, they have to use comparative and superlative. Then they have to read these sentences loudly, other student try to guess what/who they are describing.(10mins)

Step 4:Homework

Students finish a composition, “My best friend and I ”. Consolidate the usage of comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives and adverbs.

8. Evaluation

The teacher evaluates the students.

The students evaluate each other.

9. Blackboard writing design

Comparative:

1.比较级 + and +比较级 越来越…

2.the+比较级 , the + 比较级  越…, 就越 …

3.表示不及另一方时,用“less+原级+than…”

4.两者比较,可用”Which/Who … +比较级,…or …?”表示.

Superlative:  

1. 三者或三者以上比较,可用”Which/Who … +最高级,…,…or …?”表示.

2. 序数词修饰最高级,表示“第...个最....的...”

3. one of +形容词最高级+名词复数表示“最… 之一”
