Step1. Revision:
Revise the superlative adjectives and what they have learned last period.
Do it like this.Tell Ss I’d like to travel around the world,would you like to join me.Let’s start from Wuhan.First let’s go to Africa.Then show a pic of the Nile,ask Ss,what the name of the river is. A S may answers it is the Nile,then ask him/her,can you say something more about the Nile.Ss may answer the Nile is the longest river in the world.Then revise the Caspian sea is the deepest of all the salt lakes,the Sahara is the biggest desert in the world.and Qomolangma is the longest mountain in the world.Explain the meaning of the word southwestern .
Step2.Watch a video
Ask Ss to watch a exciting short video about Qomolangma,Before watching,ask them, Can you reach the top of Qomolangma?Why? Then ask 3 or 4 Ss to answer this question.Ss may answer the reasons like this,because it’s too dangerous,the wind is too strong,the storm is too heavy,it’s hard to breath etc.At the end of this step summarize their answers to this question.
Step3.Word study
Use pics to learn some new words,let Ss to read after you,then practice the new words in different ways ,Ss can practice the words one by one ,line by line,in groups etc.Then play a game to test if they have known the meaning of the new words.Ask Ss watch carefully and tell you which word did they see?
