三、Teaching process

Ⅰ. Warming-up and revision

This activity gives students revision about the past events.

Say, What day is it today, what day was it yesterday. Ask one student when he/she was born and where he/she was born. The student answers my question and ask another one the same question. Look at the picture, ask students what they can do and what they could do when they were five. Work in pairs and ask the questions to each other . In this part we reviewed the activities in the past.

Ⅱ. New words This activity introduces the key words.

Focus attention on the picture. Ask students to tell what they see. Name each activity and ask students to repeat: sing a song, dance, perform kung fu, perform magic tricks, play the guitar, play basketball. Say each one again and ask students to repeat.

Say, What can you do? The student answers my question. Did you sing a song yesterday. The student answers my question and lead in the past simple. Ask students to repeat: Did you do yesterday? Yes, I did./No, I didn’t. Repeat it again by using another phrase. Do pair work and practice the general questions.

Say, What did you do yesterday, lead in the special question of the past simple tense. Repeat the questions by using some other phrases. Work in pairs and do some practice .

Ⅳ.Grammar This activity introduces the rules of the past form.

Say, From those sentences, we see some verbs which are different from their original forms. We use the past form of verbs in the past events. But how do we change verbs into the past form? Let’s play a game and think about this question. Do a guessing game quickly. Look at more verbs and find the rules of the past form. Discuss with your partners in the group, give us your conclusion.

After we find the rules, let’s do more exercises and practice.
