Match the idioms and expressions

3.Review and practise the idioms ,then try to explain the idiom with body languages, ask the students to act them out.

Arouse the students’ interest and lead into the topic –The idioms.

While-reading Procedure

Have a quick look at the whole passage to match?the best idioms with the right expressions.

1.What does it mean?

1).My new TV is a lemon .It has a very bad picture.

2).I’m the apple of my grandmother’s eye.

3).The team went bananas when it won the championship.

4).Jane is very nice, she’s a peach.

5).I know you have a sweet tooth, so I bought you a box of chocolates.

6).Shake a leg! We have to get to school in ten minutes.

Help the students to find the main idea of each idiom (skimming).

2.Fill in the blanks:

1). something that is very easy to do

2). something that does not work, eg. TV or

some machines.

3). to go crazy

4). a very nice person

5). one’s favorite person

Help Ss develop their reading skills: read for detailed information (scanning).

3.Revision

Ask students to go over all the idioms which we have learned, and list them on the blackboard.

Test Ss’ understanding of the idioms and memorize the details with them.
