T: I love mangoes. What do you like to eat?

Lead-in

Introduce T’s experience.

T: When I was young, about your age, I didn’t like spinach. So my mother told me, “If you drink the spinach soup, you can get 50 yuan.”(Show the picture and the students learn “if”)

T: If you do well in class, you can get a card in your bank.

If I’m hungry, I’ll have ...

Take a brief look at the food. Recall the names of food and try to express “If I’m hungry, I’ll have ...”

(设计意图:回顾已经学过的食品名称,调动孩子的知识储备。为if从句的学习做铺垫。“好习惯银行卡”,给表现优秀的孩子发卡。)

Step 2. Presentation

Read the picture book

Read the cover with some ice creams around.

T: Do you like ice cream, class? They look so nice. What can you see in the cover?

Can you raise some questions? (Inspire them to ask questions with the question words they’ve learned.)

Ss: Who love ice cream? Where are they? What do they eat? When?....

(设计意图:读绘本的封面,让学生根据画面以及文字提出问题,培养孩子的问题意识和提问能力,进而在下一个环节引导学生快速阅读,理解故事大意。)

How to raise questions?

T: This is a mind map of questions we can ask to better understand a story. We should know “time”--when, “characters”-- who, “places”--where, “plot”--what, and something else.
