Step1 pre-reading

The teacher shows a picture to the students and ask them to answer the question “What does the boy look like?” by using one word. (fat)

Then the teacher guides the students to the question “Why is he so fat?” by using the sentence structure “I guess that….”

(Design purpose: to guide students to review the object clauses and lead to the new lesson by showing some pictures and a sentence structure “I guess that…”)

Step2 while-reading

Teach the skimming skill and then ask students to finish three tasks by using this skill.

Task 1 Color the introduction and conclusion part.

Task 2 Underline the topic sentences of Paragraphs 2-4.

Task 3 Write a good title for the passage.

(Design purpose: to teach skimming skill and then ask students to use this skill to grasp some general information of the passage)

Teach the scanning skill and then ask students to finish two tasks by using this skill.
