I have already divided the whole class into 6 teams. Each student is encouraged to work in a team during and after the class. When one of the team members finishes one task, they can gain one point for their group. The students play an active role in my class. 1. pre-reading(2 mins)Ask the students to skim the text, ask them to look at the sub-headings and then answer the following questions:

What are the sub-headings?

Guess which of the following sentences are mentioned in the text?

Computers are getting smaller and better.

Computers can do important jobs like flying planes.

Computers may work as doctors.

Computers are expensive.

This question is to lead the student to understand the meaning and usage of sub-headings and the skill of guessing the general ideas through sub-headings. It is not very difficult, but students need to figure out the meaning of sub-headings.2. Fast-Reading Watch a video for the first part ( 3mins)Watch a video about the development of computers to help students understand the content, and lead to the introduction of the development of computers.

Because the text is simple and kind of out of date, so it is important to supplement the text. A video is a good choice, for it contains much information and it’s easy for middle school students to understand.

The following two parts also pick up this process of reading, that is, think/guess, watch, and read.

This process is intended to train the Students’ ability to find relative information through the video and get students familiar with what they are going to read.3. Detailed- reading for the first part (5 mins)Task:

Read the first paragraph and fill in the table.

After reading the text, they are asked to do group work, exchanging notes with one another, and then report their result in the class. During this process, the students can analyze the text, and hold the general idea of the passage; meanwhile their spirit of teamwork is trained, which will benefit them a lot in their future study and work.

Fast-Reading Watch a video for the second part ( 3mins)Ask students to think of the question what computers can do for us, and then watch a video about the applications of computers to help students understand the content. After that, summarize the application of computers, such as calculate, surf the internet, chat online, pay online, etc.

This part is a necessary supplement for the text and it’s necessary for students to understand the text well. This process is intended to train the Students’ ability to find relative information through the video and get students familiar with what they are going to read.Detailed- reading for the second part (6 mins)
