2.Work in pairs and talk about your favourite festivals

Teaching methods:

Teaching tools: Multi—media; computer, food and so on.

Teaching procedures:

Step1: Lead-in

Relaxing time: Enjoy some festival songs , guess “What festival is it?”

【设计意图:通过听不同节日的音频歌曲导入新课,使学生迅速进入本课话题—festivals,又为接下来的教学做好了铺垫。让学生在享受听音乐的同时,激发学生对不同节日的兴趣。】

Step2: Presentation:

Do you know these festivals?

Christmas; Chinese New Year; Dragon Boat Festival; Halloween; Mid-Autumn Festival; Thanksgiving Day

Please classify the above festivals. And write the names of the festival under the pictures on P57.

【设计意图:通过看不同节日的图片说出不同的节日名称。先呈现图片让学生说,然后教师让其将节日归类,分中国传统的节日和西方节日,不熟悉的节日名称及时带读。】

Step3: Discussion

T: For different festivals people have different ways to celebrate. For example, when the Mid-Autumn Day comes, Chinese people will get together in a family group and have a big dinner. When night falls, we enjoy the full moon and eat a kind of special cakes in the shapes of the full moon—moon cakes.

Work in groups. Discuss about different festivals and celebrations. Please complete the table.

【设计意图:先谈论一个即将到来的中国传统节日---中秋节,以旧带新,便于学生接受新知识;以小组合作讨论的方式了解更多中西方节日的庆祝方式,然后让学生看实物,用英文说说不同的节日庆祝方式。让每位学生在小组内充分发挥其作用,锻炼学生的合作创新意识,创设英语学习环境说英语, 让学生更加热爱中国的传统节日。】

Step4: Playing a game

Have a guess. Read a short passage about different festivals, then tell me what festival it is.

【设计意图:寓教于乐,用猜一猜的形式,将所学的不同节日的庆祝方式以阅读的形式说出节日名称,将知识系统化;授课中将其中有用的表达方式读一读,为接下来的对话练习做铺垫。】

Step5: Speaking

T: What is your favourite festival,…?

S:….(the name of the favourite festival)

T: Why do you like it?

S:….(Reasons.)

T: Millie and Tommy are chatting online about their favourite festivals. Listen to their conversation carefully and answer the following questions.

1. What is Tommy’s favourite festival?

Christmas.

2. Why does he like it?

Because they can get lots of presents at Christmas

3. What is Millie’s favourite festival?
