III. Teaching procedures

Step 1 Warm-up

1. Enjoy a short video: A letter from Wendy

T: Boys and girls , on Children’s Day , our school held an activity called say goodbye to our childhood. Our teacher asked us to write a letter to our parents . Do you remember? Here is a letter from Wendy .let’s enjoy the video first. While watching , please pay attention to the verbs in the simple past tense and try to answer my question. Please watch carefully.

Dear Mum,

I am a middle school now. I have grown up. But I still remember my school life in my primary school.

When I was a little child, you started to go to work in a big city far away from my home. So I had to look after myself. Every morning I got up at 6:00. I washed my face and brushed my teeth quickly. I cleaned my room. At the same time, I cooked breakfast for myself. After breakfast I walked to school. Our school started at 8:00 in the morning from Monday to Friday . And finished at 5:00 p.m. I ate lunch at school. During lunchtime , I chatted with my friends. We always had a good time.

I loved dancing at that time. After school , I practiced dancing in our school Dancing Club. It was hard, but I enjoyed myself. I also liked playing volleyball .Sometimes I played volley ball with my classmates.

At weekends , other children stayed at home with their parents . But I had to stay at home alone. I did my homework alone. I had dinner alone. I shopped alone. I slept alone. How I missed you daddy and mummy. I know you did everything for me . I need you a gentle touch. I need you a warm hug(拥抱) . I need you a sweet kiss. I need your love.

Daddy and Mummy , you work very hard. When you feel tired, don’t forget to have a rest. Please remember to take good care of yourselves.

Step 2 Presentation

T: The words washed ,brushed, cleaned ,walked and chatted are the past forms of the regular verbs. Many verbs in the simple past tense end in the letters -ed. Do you know how to pronounce this ending? How many ways of pronouncing –ed are there?
