Step 1 Lead-in

1. Daily report

(Present two articles on the topics about natural disasters--- an earthquake and a snowstorm)

2. Guiding paper

Step 2 Presentation

Play a guessing game to name five common natural disasters according to some hints.

T: What natural disaster is it?

T: What are the results of the disaster?

(Use some hints to help students find out the disaster and some pictures to know what will always happen after it.)

After students name the fifth disaster, watch a short video about an earthquake. Answer the question: Where did the earthquake happen?

Step 3 Pre-reading

Use key expressions and pictures to describe and talk about the Taiwan earthquake.

Step 4 While-reading

1. When we read stories, we should know four parts (Pic. 1):

Read fast and find the answers to the four key questions above.

2. skimming

Read and divide the article into the three parts (Pic. 2).

3.Scanning
