Step1:Warm up

A video about Wenchuan earthquake and answer some questions

Step2:Pre-reading

1.Read the title and find out the key elements about the article.

2.Divide the article into several parts:

Before the earthquake

During the earthquake

After the earthquake

Step3:While-reading

Before the earthquake: Read Para1 together and answer questions.

During the earthquake:

1).Read Para2. loudly by themselves and fill in blanks and judge Timmy’s feeling.

2).Read Para1.&2 again to find if the earthquake came suddenly.

3).Watch and say:When a terrible earthquake started, what could/couldn’t Timmy do?

3. After the earthquake:

1)Read and act: Boys read Para3 together.If you were Timmy, how would you describe your feelings? Discuss with the partners about Timmy’s feelings.

2)Read and analyze:Girls read Para4 together.What did Timmy do after he calmed down?

3)Read and analyze.Read Para5. loudly by themselves and fill in blanks and judge Timmy’s feeling.

4)Read and feel. Listen to the tape and read Para.5 with feelings.

Step3:After-reading

1)Think and answer: Discuss in groups about how did Timmy’s feelings change.

2)Think and answer:Why did Timmy survive?

3)Think and answer:Discuss in groups about if you were Timmy, what do you want to share with us? What should/shouldn’t we do?

Step4:Homework

1. Retell the text to your friends and family members;

2. Search for more knowledge and draw a mind map about one disaster happened around the world.
