StepⅠ Presentation
Last summer holiday, my friend Linda went to Shanghai Disneyland. At about 10 o’clock, she got to MICKEY AVENUE.What did she think of it? She thought MICKEY AVENUE was wonderful. It showed her a colorful world. It was really meaningful to go there. Here “ful” is a suffix. A suffix is a letter or a group of letters that add to the end of a word to form a new word.
Step Ⅱ Practice
After leaving MICKEY AVENUE, she went to TOMORROWLAND. Everything there was so wonderful that she wanted to go there again. The games were also cheerful and she could not stop playing them. Here “-ful” add a noun to form an adjective.
There were so many exciting things in FANTASYLAND. But something terrible happened. During the visit, she lost her purse. She was so not careful. She was so careless. Here “-less” add a noun to form another adjective. But it means without, so careless is opposite of careful.
Step Ⅲ Conclusion
Let’s make a conclusion now. There are two kinds of suffixes we have got today. One is “-ful”, it means “full of” “ having the quality of” , the other is “-less”, it means “without” “ not having the quality of” .
In the afternoon, Linda arrived at TREASURE COVE. People all felt very excited there. Suddenly she saw a little boy. The boy was so frightened. It’s useless to ask him any questions because he kept crying. She should do something useful to change that. She is helpful because she can imagine the boy’s feelings of being helpless.
Linda enjoyed her day in Shanghai Disneyland. You also learned something about suffixes “-ful” and “-less”. If you want to know more about them, i will give you some tips.
1. 有些名词有-ful构成的形容词, 但无-less构成的形容词；反之亦然。
e.g. endless, wonderful, delightful…
2.并非所有名词都由后缀-ful 和-less构成形容词形式。
e.g. friendly, windy, excited, interesting…
