2. New structures: Do you know Sunshine Town very well, Mr Chen?

I’ve lived here since I was born.

Has the town changed a lot over the years?

Now the government has turned part of the town into a new park.

It has become impossible for us to see each other as often as before.

Now I feel a bit lonely from time to time.

IV. Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

Present some pictures and get the students to know some new words and phrases.

Step 2 Pre-reading

1. Prediction

T: My hometown Yangzhou has changed a lot over the years. It has turned into a new modern city. What about Sunshine Town? Look at the title “Times have changed”. Work in pairs and predict (预测) the changes in Sunshine Town.

2. Group work

T: If you are a reporter, what questions will you ask about the changes in Sunshine Town?

Step 3 While-reading

1. Skimming

(1) Read and answer: How many questions does the interviewer ask? What are they?

(2) Read the interview quickly and divide it into 4 parts. Let the students say the main idea of each part.

【设计意图:通过运用略读的阅读策略,引导学生了解文章的主题,同时让学生找出采访的五个问题,了解采访型文章的结构形式,让学生划分段落并归纳段落大意,增强学生的整体篇章意识。】

2. Scanning

(1) Read lines 7-11 and compare what they had in the past and what they have today.

(2) Read lines 12-16 and try to fill in the blanks.

(3) Read lines 17-23 and retell Mr Chen’s feeling to the changes in Sunshine Town.
