Teaching procedures

Step1: Warm-up Let’s be smart watchers!

Invite students to watch a video about manners in public.

Ask the students to bear in mind the things the man did in the video and answer the question: Does the man have good manners? What did he do?

Step2: Advice for the man Let’s be better citizens!

Show students the scenes in the video and lead students to give proper advice.

Tips for advice: You’d better (not)…/It’s impolite to…/Don’t…

Step3: Picture talking Review

Show students some pictures about bad manners. Ask students to use what they have learnt to describe the pictures in order to review the former lessons.

Tips for description: Use complete sentence.

Step4: Think and guess Learn about public signs

1. What tool can we use to advise people to behave politely in public?

Eg:1. Parking (park your car in a parking lot)

2. New words learning:

No smoking---a warning sign

Features:

1. Explain things to us

2. be used in public places

3. use bright colors

Functions:

1. Warn us not to break the public rules

2. keep us safe from danger

Step5: Memory test Let’s be quick observers!

Invite students to work in pairs. Ask and answer with the pictures.

A: What does the sign “…” mean?

B: It means that we shouldn’t...

A: Where can we usually see it?

B: We can usually see it in…..

Step6: Details about public signs Let’s be careful listeners!

1. Get the students to finish part A1 on page 72.
