Teaching procedures

Purpose

Step 1: Warming up

Invite the students to watch a video about the Olympic Games in Rio and ask them what it is about to lead in.

Free talk:

As we know, there are many volunteers. I will tell them I want to be a volunteer for the Olympics. Because it is meaningful. Will you support me? (present the new words in real situations.)

Ask and answer:

If I want to train myself to be a volunteer, what can I do?

Discuss:

To motivate the students and lead in our textbook. The video is about the Olympics. And there are many volunteers for the Olympics. Hobo in our textbook also wants to be a volunteer for the Olympics. It is closely related to our textbook.

In this part, the new words should be presented to the students in some real situations and use some words they have already known to explain for them.

Step 2: Presentation (comic strip)

Hobo also wants to be a volunteer for the Olympic Games. Let’s listen to their conversation and find out more information.

Ask the students to check the answers. Listen and follow it sentence by sentence. And then ask them to read the dialogue together and act it out.

In this part, students need to listen and then answer the questions, hoping they can the main idea of the conversation.

Listening and reading after it sentence by sentence can improve their spoken English and listening ability.

Step 3. Presentation( Welcome to the unit )

Being a volunteer means to help the people who need help. The students need to discuss who needs help in our life:

People who can’t walk.

People who don’t have money.

People who can’t…

New words:

Play a game to consolidate the new words:

Finish Part A on Page 79.

Discuss: How to help them in our life? Give them a handout like this. They can write down their answers.
